Start in the car park next to the lift bridge. Exit the car park towards the road and turn left to cross the lift bridge.

At the other side of the bridge there is a metal gate to the left, enter the canal towpath though this gate.

Continue along the tow path, you will pass under a railway bridge and continue on further. The next bridge you come across take the right bend just before it on to the gravel road. Turn right up the road and over the bridge. At the other side of the bridge turn right back on the canal towpath.

Continue along the canal until you reach the Don aqueduct. Here you can choose one of two routes. The shorter route takes you across the canal in the caged bridge just before the aqueduct. The extended route would see you carry on across the aqueduct bridge. See the end of this walk description for the extended route details.

After going over the caged bridge go down the slope and continue straight on, walking away from the canal. This path comes to a right hand corner, follow it and continue straight on again until you come to a track/road. Turn right along the road towards a car park and lock.

Cross the lock by going across the gate and continue right, down the canal.

Continue all the way down the canal until you go up a slight uphill back on thee the gravel road. Then turn left down the road.

Staying on the road/track, go over the style next to the metal gate and continue on, until you get to a road (Bramwith Lane).

Turn right on the road and go across the rail crossing and stay on the road. Keep following the same road until you get the the church in front of you. Just before the church take the road to the right (The Grove) and walk down there.

At the bottom follow the corner around to the left and stay on the same road.

At the end of this road you will see the canal lift bridge on your right. Go over the bridge and back to the car park.

For the extended route:

Continue over the aqueduct and along the path on the other side, sticking next to the canal.

When you reach a road (Low Lane), turn right, crossing over the canal. Follow the road, passing St Marys church on your left. You will then go over a narrow road bridge over the River Don.

After the river, turn right down a road so the canal is on your left and river is on your right. Continue down to a car park and lock, where you can pick up thee original route.
